August 10 is National Spoil Your Dog Day (not that we needed an excuse!). But honestly, it’s the perfect moment to pause, look into those puppy-dog eyes, and ask ourselves the real question: Are we doing enough to celebrate the furry royalty living rent-free in our homes? (And also in our hearts. And on our couches. And sometimes on our pillows.)
Because let’s face it: Your dog probably has a better daily routine than you. Regular walks, scheduled naps, organic treats, and a skincare regimen that involves paw balm and tear stain wipes. And guess what? They absolutely deserve every single second of it.
This wag-worthy holiday is more than just a reason to shower your pup with extra belly rubs and guilt-free treats. It’s a reminder that our dogs aren’t just pets. They’re therapists, comedians, workout buddies, and full-time joy machines rolled into one gloriously fluffy package.
And here’s the real kicker: Spoiling your dog is actually good for them. Science agrees.
Studies have shown that interacting with dogs – things like petting, playing, and talking to them like they’re fluent in English – boosts oxytocin levels in both you and your pup. Oxytocin is the “bonding hormone” responsible for all those warm fuzzies. That’s why National Spoil Your Dog Day is more than just a date. It’s a celebration of everything they give us, and a reminder to give it back. Not once a year, but always.
