Saint Bernard Puppies: The Gentle Giants

September 25, 2018

Saint Bernard puppies are gentle giants.

We know that sometimes large dogs get a bad rap, but these big beauties shouldn’t ever! They are extremely tender and tolerant. Put them in a family with kids and everyone will be pleased and happy to learn how well they get along. They are just too sweet and we love talking about them. Continue reading to learn even more, because they are one interesting breed!

Plenty o’ Personality

Saint Bernards puppies and adult dogs are loving and placid. People unfamiliar with their generally sweet dispositions are taken aback by their size and sometimes approach (or not) in fear. In some ways, we understand because Saint Bernard puppies are naturally quick to protect family members who they believe are in danger. In most cases, they are overwhelmingly friendly. They are perfect for families with children because they are known to be patient, especially with little kids who can be a little rough. They are careful not to injure the child, as they’re aware of their size.

Sharing Your Space

Saint Bernard puppies are social and they love being around family. Honestly, nothing makes them happier than participating in family activities. On the flip side, they will sulk and be sad if they’re left alone too much. In those cases, they can become a bit destructive, acting out of boredom. It’s imperative that they are trained as Saint Bernard puppies sooner than later. What you’ll learn, as they’re learning, is that they are quick studies.

Big Dog – Big Diet

You want to make sure that your Saint Bernard puppies are eating a well-balanced and nutritional meal. Of course you want to feed your dog the proper amounts, but be careful not to overfeed them, as they’re prone to obesity. Excess weight can strain the joints and create or worsen any problems in your dog’s hips or elbows. Saints have a life expectancy of 8 to 10 years so a proper diet and healthy living conditions will keep your pup around happy and healthy!
